The Buxton Crescent Experience is a new innovative attraction that reveals the story of a spa town and its links to water, with exclusive group tours also on offer.

Buxton Crescent Experience

One group showing off their souvenir glass bottle of Buxton mineral water as part of their tour.

The experience is set within the Grade I listed Crescent building within the Derbyshire town, and consists of nine themed rooms which explore a period spanning more than 10,000 years, explaining the history of Buxton, the Crescent, Buxton Water and the people who have visited to bathe in the thermal mineral water.

The premium group tour is a 90-minute exclusive experience hosted by a knowledgeable guide that allows visitors to delve into the hidden history of the town, hear in-depth stories and discover how the Crescent building came to exist.

During the interactive tour, groups take a virtual reality flight above the town during its Georgian heyday and rub shoulders with the regency high society before having their ailments cured by an 18th century apothecary.

The tour ends following rainwater on a 5,000 year journey through the Peak District hills before it emerges warm from the natural springs beneath the Crescent.

Buxton Crescent Experience

There is plenty of space outside the venue for coaches to drop-off and pick up groups.

Following the Crescent Experience tour, the guide will lead the group to the Grade II listed Pump Room and show them the sunken oval pool, where the 5,000-year-old mineral water still rises from the ground.

Groups will receive a souvenir glass bottle to ‘take the water’ from the historic Lion’s Head Well or St. Ann’s Well to take home.

Coach parties (minimum of 16 people) can opt for a 60-90 minute self-guided visit. Exclusive after hours and early opening groups visits are also available and group refreshments can be arranged before or after the visit in the historic setting of the Pump Room. A 10% discount applies for groups on themed souvenirs available from the Pump Room.
