Home to ancient legends, expansive countryside and rich culture, mid Wales offers a range of activities for groups to enjoy during a visit.
Mid Wales stretches from Southern Snowdonia to the Ceredigion Coast, the striking landscapes of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and everywhere in between.
1. Alpaca My Boots
Take on an outdoor adventure with a group of friendly alpacas with Alpaca My Boots, located on a working family farm just 3.5 miles outside of Brecon in the heart of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park. Groups can book a private trek for six or more people.
Visitors can enjoy a fantastic, family-friendly experience lasting about 90 minutes. The trek takes visitors on Mynydd Illtyd Common, taking in Twyn Y Gaer, the remnants of an Iron Age fort, and views of the Bannau Brycheiniog, Usk valley and the Black Mountains.
2. Welsh Mountain Cider
Welsh Mountain Cider specialises in making fine, natural ciders and growing hardy apples and pear trees. A guided tour takes visitors through a museum orchard of more than 450 apple and 50 pear varieties to learn about orchard practices, growing organically and at altitude.
Tours also feature an introduction to production techniques for making ciders, and a tasting of three bottled vintage ciders to learn about the different flavours and styles of cider produced. Groups of up to 20 can take part in private tours, tailored to meet the group’s requirements.
3. The Silver Mountain Experience
Located in the western Cambrian mountains of Mid Wales, the Silver Mountain Experience was originally a silver-rich lead ore mine primarily in the 19th century, which has been restored as an example of Welsh mining heritage and features a Victorian mine, escape rooms, mining museum and more.
There is the original old mine “count house”, other buildings connected with the ore dressing process, plus ancient photographs, tools, equipment and mining documents from the industry displayed in the museum. Also, above ground, are collections of mining machinery and working water wheels.
Groups can enjoy discounted tickets for ten or more visitors, with entry to the main site and a choice of tours, picking from The Black Chasm, A Dragon’s Tale or A Miner’s Life tour.
4. King Arthur’s Labyrinth
Explore the underground world of Corris Caverns at King Arthur’s Labyrinth and sail through the veil of an underground waterfall into a world with stories of dragons, giants, fierce battles and King Arthur.
Once the boat docks, you will be guided through winding tunnels and vast caverns of the labyrinth by your guide, a hooded Dark Age Boatman. Inside the labyrinth, ancient Welsh legends unfold with dramatic scenes, light, and sound.
Groups should pre-book and discounts are available for 15 or more people booking together. Group discounts do not apply during July and August.
5. The National White Water Centre
The National White Water Centre is located in Bala, in the heart of the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park. Set in stunning Welsh hills, the dam-controlled River Tryweryn has high flows ideal for exhilarating white water rafting and canyoning adventures on natural rapids throughout the year.
Groups booking more than two rafts, which hold five to six people each, for a whitewater rafting challenge on the wild river through unspoilt woodland can take advantage of discounts.
6. Corris Mine Explorers
Corris Caverns is also home to Corris Mine Explorers, which has guides to take visitors underground, following in the footsteps of Victorian slate miners. Experience broad tunnels and cavernous chambers where slate was excavated by both hand and explosive, before being shipped around the world.
Mine guides provide visitors with a hard hat and hand torch, before guiding them up the short climb to the slate mine entrance for a 90-minute experience.
Underground explorations are available for exclusive trips for up to ten people and larger groups can get in contact to book.
