A brand new festival called Timber will debut in the National Forest next July, and will explore the impact of forests.

The festival will bring music, art, philosophy and sustainability together into an “exhilarating weekend in the heart of the National Forest”.

Timber will take place between 6th and 8th July 2018 and will be the only international forest festival in the UK. The festival will be located at Feanedock, a 70-acre woodland site at the heart of the National Forest.

Early bird tickets for Timber are now on sale.

What to expect when visiting

Created by the National Forest Company and Wild Rumpus, the experiences that Timber will offer, alongside early-bird tickets and boutique camping, have been announced ahead of a full programme which will be released in early 2018.

During the festival, you can explore the impact of forests with artists musicians, scientists and thinkers from across the world and explore what woodlands can mean to us and how we can re-imagine our relationship with our environment.

The festival will feature “an ambitious adventure into sound and music, rooted in the forest” and “torchlight processions, light projections, fire gardens, and luminous installations” to help visitors see the forest in a new light.

A joyous exploration of food and drink, from farmers' market stalls to food trucks, foraging workshops to picnics and banquets, will also be a highlight of the event.

The National Forest is made up of 200 square miles of the Midlands, including areas such as Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Staffordshire.

John Everitt, chief executive, National Forest Company, commented: “Timber is both a celebration and statement of intent: a celebration of how the National Forest has transformed 200 square miles of the English Midlands, and a statement of intent to create an international movement to champion forests. The festival will shine a spotlight on trees as a catalyst for change.”
