Oscar-winning Ghost the Musical will tour the UK
Ghost the Musical will make a return to the stage this summer, embarking on a UK tour for the first time since 2019.
The 1950s musical Little Shop of Horrors is returning to the UK in a brand new production this August with X Factor contestant Rhydian playing the iconic role of the dentist.
The brand new tour will open at Bournemouth Pavillion on Thursday 4th August before touring theatres around the UK.
Little Shop of Horrors tells the story of shy shop assistant Seymour, working at Mushnik’s Flower Shop in the downtrodden Skid Row. When he discovers an exotic plant and names it after Audrey – the shop assistant he’s secretly in love with – he becomes an overnight sensation.
However, the plant soon grows a mind of its own and develops an unquenchable thirst – for human blood.
The musical will star Rhydian who rose to fame after his success on ITV’s X Factor and who has gone on to star in theatre shows such as Grease, We Will Rock You and the 40th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Show.
Little Shop of Horrors will feature music by composer Alan Menken, who also provided musical scores for Disney classics such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin and Pocahontas.
Further casting is to be announced.
The show will also tour at Belfast Opera House, Coventry Belgrade Theatre and Manchester Palace Theatre – before closing at Blackpool Grand Theatre on 26th November.
History of the show
Little Shop of Horrors originally opened off broadway in 1982, based on a low-budget black comedy film from 1960.
Following the success of the musical, a film version was produced which went on to become a cult classic starring Rick Moranis, Ellen Greene, Bill Murray and Steve Martin, who played the dentist.
Other notable stage productions include the 2006 London revival at the Menier Chocolate Factory and in the West End, starring Sheridan Smith as Audrey.
