The international festival of performance, Fierce, has announced its full programme of live art, theatre, dance, music and installations due to take over Birmingham from 16th to 22nd October.

Six world premieres and 12 UK premieres are confirmed so far, with artists hailing from ten countries across four continents.

Exploring themes as diverse as the rituals of clubbing, mental health, fandom and fan art, activism, queer culture and climate change, the 2017 programme contains 50 events.

What’s new?

The six world premieres will include a dance piece by Last Yearz Interesting Negro, the moniker of artist Jamila Johnson-Small, and NOTORIOUS, a stage piece by Lauren Barri Holstein that draws on myths of Medusa.

Fierce will also host a trio of Canadian works, including the Listening Choir which invites festival-goers to walk through Birmingham listening to an altered sonic landscape of the city.

Further highlights will include American cabaret star Erin Markey’s late night show; a digital performance from theatre company Get in the Back of the Van; and a free-standing brick wall erected in the Festival Hub in Digbeth.

This year’s festival will be the 17th of its kind, and will take place at a number of venues across Birmingham including the Repertory Theatre, the Patrick Centre, Birmingham Hippodrome, and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.
