The Amazon Rainforest

In 2017, cruise line Hurtigruten will undertake its first inland voyage along the Amazon River on a 16-night sailing titled Expedition to the Amazon Rainforest.

Become an explorer

The Amazon voyage starts in Manaus deep inside the Brazilian rainforest. While sailing down the river, adventurous guests can experience and learn about the nature and wildlife onboard the expedition vessel, as well as from canoes and during hikes on-shore.

Ideal for groups who love river cruising and have a keen interest in the outdoors, the holiday explores an area of a bio-diverse wilderness.

On top of the plant life and fauna, you might also encounter animals such as jaguars, tapirs, howler monkeys, parrots, piranhas and caimans.

Expedition to the Amazon Rainforest is one of 23 new expedition voyages added to Hurtigruten’s 2017/18 cruise programme, and departs on 15th October 2017, travelling from Manaus to Montevideo.

Explorer cruises combine active adventures with learning. GTOs booking this cruise can expect science lectures to be given from experts in history, zoology, botany and environmental science.

Discover Greenland and arctic Canada

Hurtigruten now offers more than 200 ports of call in 18 countries worldwide; another new highlight for the 2017/18 season gives groups a chance to explore Kangertittivaq in Greenland – also known as Scoresby Sund. It is one of the longest fjords in the world, extending 350 kilometres into the island.

Additionally, you can choose to sail to Newfoundland, which is a large Canadian island off the east coast of the North American mainland.

The island was abandoned after being visited by the Icelandic Viking Leif Eriksson in the 11th century, and visitors on a Hurtigruten cruise can discover Viking settlements and the national parks of the island.

Four new voyages will incorporate Newfoundland and Labrador with highlights including the provincial capital of St John's, Baffin Bay and Torngat Mountains National Park, Saint-Pierre and Miquelon, Red Bay and Battle Harbour.
