The View from the Shard

If it’s some city inspiration you’re after, look no further than this Reader Club trip to London which takes in the Globe Theatre and The View from The Shard.

This October, group travel organisers are invited on a familiarisation trip to London, to learn about two of its most impressive landmarks and the group offerings available at each.

The trip takes in the Globe Theatre, where you’ll visit the Shakespeare's Globe Exhibition, followed by lunch at Pizza Express and a trip up The Shard.

Taking place on Wednesday 3rd October, the day will start in the Globe. You’ll get to visit the main exhibition where there will be the chance to see an enlarged print of A Long View of London, etched by Wenceslaus Hollar in 1647.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre

This view of the city was reportedly made from the top of Southwark Cathedral, the tallest building in the Bankside area at the time and shows the historical landmarks and districts of London which can still be seen today. When you make your trip to The View from The Shard you will see how the landscape of London has changed and enjoy a modern perspective of the Globe’s place in history.

The Globe Theatre, founded by Sam Wanamaker, is a faithful reconstruction of Shakespeare’s Elizabethan playhouse. A guided tour of the Globe Theatre with one of their expert guide-storytellers will provide a fascinating tour of the auditorium, recreating colourful stories of the 1599 Globe playhouse, the reconstruction process in the 1990s and how it works today as an imaginative and experimental space for performance.

The group will then take a short walk along the river to have lunch at Pizza Express before visiting Western Europe’s tallest building. At the top is The View from The Shard, a viewing experience promising spectacular panoramic views of the city, stretching for up to 40 miles.

The group will enjoy access to Level 69 and the open air Skydeck on Level 72 where you’ll be exposed to the elements and the sounds of the city below. Friendly guest ambassadors will be on hand to bring the view to life with their in depth knowledge of London’s skyline.
