Promoted as the biggest and most elaborate outdoor theatre production ever to have taken place in York, the York Mystery Plays will be staged in the Museum Gardens against the backdrop of medieval St Mary’s Abbey from the 2nd to 27th August.

Produced by York Theatre Royal, Riding Lights Theatre Company and York Museums Trust, these epic performances of biblical stories from Creation to the Last Judgment will play out in a 1,400 covered seated theatre constructed within the Abbey walls.

The medieval cycle of York Mystery Plays has been told by the people of York for hundreds of years and is deeply embedded in the city’s cultural heritage.
