The magnificent historic house in Bedfordshire is set to close for 18 months from September next year for a major refurbishment.
But the Duke and Duchess of Bedford’s estate, open from 5th April to 1st September 2019, has announced a package of deals for group travel organisers ahead of the shutdown.
Gasp in awe at the stunning works of Reynolds and Van Dyck, be amazed by the largest private collection of Canaletto’s Venetian views and swoon over silver and porcelain masterpieces.
Or, why not explore the unique indoor Grotto to learn more about the fascinating lives of generations of this gilded family spanning 500 years?
Outside there are 28 award-winning acres of gardens to wander through featuring elegant displays, woodland glades and wild areas.
Tours with a Royal Horticultural Society-qualified gardener are also available and there’s still chance to see the new Humphry Repton exhibition which showcases his most elaborate ‘Red Book’ for the first time.
For those who are wild at heart Woburn Safari Park, with its magnificent collection of big cats, elephants and giraffes, is a short hop away.k.

The refurbishment, Woburn Abbey’s biggest to date, will update it as a major visitor attraction, providing first-class facilities including disabled access. It’s due to re-open in Easter 2021.

Discounted entry, a ‘meet and greet’ service, free parking close to the entrance and free pre-visit and entry for group organisers.
There is also a choice of catering options, a £10 refreshment voucher for the coach driver and options for talks and guided tours.

Special events
The big buzz at Woburn Abbey this September will be the celebration of bees and all things honey.
Groups visiting on 19th September can try on a beekeepers’ outfit and peer down a microscope to study the insect’s anatomy.
There will also be an observation beehive for visitors to have a close-up look at bees at work, along with talks on beekeeping and honey products.
For groups with green fingers the Woburn Abbey Gardens Show is being held from 22nd to 23rd June 2019.
There will be specialist stalls, talks and demonstrations. Group rates: Adult £11.50, concession £9.50, children £5.50
Where to stay
Overnight accommodation is available at the 4AA-star Woburn Hotel, which offers a modern twist on a country classic.
There are 55 contemporary and individually designed bedrooms including seven cottage suites and the multi award-winning restaurant, Olivier’s.
