JB Priestley’s classic thriller An Inspector Calls will visit a number of UK venues in September and October, on a new short tour opening at the York Theatre Royal.
Written at the end of World War Two and set before the first, An Inspector Calls has been described as a ‘compelling and haunting thriller’. The story takes place over one evening when the mysterious Inspector Goole calls unexpectedly on the prosperous Birling family home, shattering their peaceful family dinner party with his investigations into the death of a young woman.
The tour will open at the York Theatre Royal (14th to 22nd September 2018), before heading to the Cambridge Arts Theatre (25th to 29th September), the New Wimbledon Theatre (2nd to 6th October), and the Cheltenham Everyman Theatre (9th to 13th October).

Since 1992, Daldry’s production of An Inspector Calls has won 19 awards including four Tony Awards and three Olivier Awards. It has played to more than four million theatregoers worldwide and is reportedly the most successful production in the National Theatre’s history.
The play is directed by the theatre and film director Stephen Daldry, whose many theatre credits include The Audience, Skylight and Billy Elliot The Musical. His film credits include The Hours, The Reader and Billy Elliot, all of which earned him Academy Award nominations for Best Director. Most recently he has directed several episodes of the Netflix hit series The Crown, for which he is also producer.
An Inspector Calls is designed by Ian MacNeil, with music by Academy Award winning composer Stephen Warbeck and lighting by Rick Fisher.
