North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Group visitors to the Yorkshire railway can expect even more on offer this year including afternoon teas and behind-the-scenes experiences.

Due to the success of last year’s season, which saw the arrival of locomotive the Royal Scot and a calendar of special events, the railway is offering even more events and packages for groups in 2018.

Confirmed events include Behind the Scenes, 60s Fest, Annual Steam Gala and Railway in Wartime, all suitable for groups.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway Trust Chairman, John Bailey, said: “It’s always a pleasure welcoming groups to our very special line, with journeys and activities to suit all tastes and budgets. Every visitor that travels along our line is helping to preserve one of the world’s greatest railways.”

Events on the calendar

The Behind the Scenes event taking place on 5th May, will allow visitors to get a glimpse of working life at the railways, looking at the locomotives and the effort that goes in to running the trains and the network. Plus, you’ll see some areas which are usually closed off to the public.

The 60s Fest event on 14th July will include music from the swinging sixties and you'll get to ride the railway line to other stations that are displaying similar themed events.

The Annual Steam Gala, confirmed for 28th to 30th September, will involve guest locomotives and the railway's own fleet in steam and stations along the line are hosting celebratory events.

Taking place between 12th - 14th October, Railway in Wartime allows visitors to relive the camaraderie of World War Two, enjoying war-themed entertainment and vehicle displays.
