The new heritage experience, which launched in November 2018 acknowledges the 252-year history of the Bristol Old Vic through a host of experiences and attractions.
The theatre revealed its new interactive experiences, exhibition spaces, tours and workshops last November.
The general public can now access the heritage site every day of the week during the theatre’s opening hours (Monday to Saturday, 10am-6pm).
What’s on offer
The new venue includes video projections, an immersive augmented reality experience and fully redesigned public areas within the theatre.
Liam Wiseman, heritage engagement manager, said: “For the first time we’re bringing to life our unique archives and showcasing the history of the longest continuously running theatre.
“True to the purpose of the organisation, our heritage experiences are theatrical and dynamic, and we can’t wait for everyone to see what we’ve been up to!”
The transformation of the theatre into a heritage attraction is part of a ten-year £26 million programme, of which £2.4 million has come from the National Lottery, which is intended to completely overhaul the venue.
The attraction now features a new bar, café and public spaces that will be open throughout the day.
Guided tours are available to book and will take place twice weekly on Thursday and Saturday mornings.
2019 sees the arrival of a rotational display of temporary exhibitions, showcasing archival materials in the theatre for the first time. These will change every six months and will focus on a variety of themes and topics.
Group information
Visits to the exhibitions do not need to be booked in advance, however theatre tours should be pre-booked. Discounts for the latter are available for groups.
Group rates are also available for those with ten or more wishing to see a production at the theatre.
