Borde Hill Garden

Borde Hill Garden’s significant rose collection will be celebrated between 18th and 29th June, and groups are invited to tour the house and gardens while the blooms are at their best.

The Sussex-based gardens will mark their 125th anniversary this year. To celebrate, 750 plants and 100 varieties of famous David Austin roses will be on display in a myriad of colours from pink through to crimson and yellow to red in a setting inspired by the garden's Edwardian predecessors.

The garden contains some of the most important David Austin rose varieties including Gertrude Jekyll, Winchester Cathedral and Graham Thomas, which were all introduced in the early to mid-eighties.

The gardens also boast formal beds, mixed herbaceous borders, and the special Jay Robin Rose Garden, bordered by box and lavender, red brick paths and highlighted with plantings on obelisks and trellises.

Rose Celebration Weeks: group visits

Groups are invited to pre-book a visit to either just the garden, or the garden and the Elizabethan house throughout the Rose Celebration Weeks when the house will be specially decorated with roses.

Guided garden tours for up to 25 people at a time will discover the history of the rose garden and hear what it takes to maintain it.

The tour incorporates the 17 acre garden, which is planted for interest and colour throughout the seasons. Visitors will also be able to see a new display of photographs, depicting the evolution of the garden over the last century.

Guided house tours are also available, for up to 25 people. Exclusive group tours during the Rose Celebration Weeks will see the impressive Elizabethan Mansion House full of special rose displays. Plus, visitors will be able to see family memorabilia, as well as period features, fine furnishings and family portraits.
