A brand new production of Agatha Christie’s Witness for the Prosecution will run at London County Hall on South Bank in order to provide an immersive theatrical experience for audiences.
The show, the first major production of a Christie play for several decades, will run from 6th October until 11th March 2018. It will take place in the magnificent chamber in County Hall in order to bring the audience close to the action in a thrilling court-room setting.
Described as a gripping tale of justice, passion and betrayal, Witness for the Prosecution will be directed by Lucy Bailey (Comus, The Graduate, Titus Andronicus).
Synopsis
Leonard Vole is accused of murdering a widow to inherit her wealth. The stakes are high. Will Leonard survive the shocking witness testimony? And will he be able to convince the jury of his innocence and escape the hangman’s noose?
Audience members will be sat right in the middle of the court action and play witness to the unravelling of Leonard’s fate.
The new production has been developed with the support and involvement of the Christie family. Christie’s great grandson, James Prichard said: “It is really exciting to see this innovative approach to one of my great grandmother’s best plays. The amazing setting of County Hall will help raise the production to great heights, and with Lucy Bailey directing it, will be a must-see theatre event.”

Christie’s work is reportedly seeing a huge resurgence this year, with the BBC commissioning seven new adaptations of her work. In addition, Kenneth Branagh’s star-studded film adaptation of Murder of the Orient Express will open in cinemas in November.
