Paddington Bear

VisitBritain is enticing visitors to come and discover the delicious culinary wonders of Britain in a new film tourism campaign ahead of the release of the film Paddington 2.

The new campaign shines a spotlight on some of Britain’s culinary delights; some linked to Paddington’s favourite, marmalade, and others to some of the UK’s most iconic sweet treats, including Bakewell Puddings.

Here are five tasty trips group travel organisers might like to plan into their next itinerary:

1. Marmalade at the manor

Head over to Waddesdon Manor in Buckinghamshire for a ‘delectable experience’ that’s all to do with Paddington’s favourite sandwich filler. Settle down for lunch and expect Marmalade glazed ham sandwiches, homemade scones with strawberry jam (or marmalade), Paddington's marmalade jar filled with a white chocolate, orange and mango mousse and other delicious additions. Group discounts are available on admission to Waddesdon Manor.

2. Drop in to The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop

Make your way to the Peak District to discover the secrets of Bakewell Pudding (not tart) in the very place it was first created back in 1860 in The Old Original Bakewell Pudding Shop. Stop by for a delicious Bakewell Pudding Experience and learn how to make the sweet treat (except for the secret ingredient) before savouring your own with hot custard or cream.

Groups are welcome and there is a group competition for the master bakers in the class, a prize for the best…and worst.

3. Visit a marmalade festival

Book in a visit to Penrith & Dalemain Mansion in Cumbria next year to celebrate all things marmalade at the official Marmalade Festival. Paddington has long been a patron of this event, and will be attending in 2018.

Marmalade

There will be demonstrations, talks, exhibitions and shows that will inspire visitors. At the heart of the festival is Dalemain Mansion and Historic Gardens, where hundreds of homemade competition marmalades will be on display in the state rooms. The best artisan marmalades will be available to taste for free and to buy to take home. 2018 dates are yet to be announced.

4. Head to the home of Cadbury’s chocolate

Cadbury is a ‘British institution’, delighting those with a sweet tooth since 1824. Immerse yourself in chocolate at Cadbury World, where you can go on a 4D chocolate adventure, hear the Cadbury story and stock up in the Cadbury shop. Groups can learn how their favourite confectionery is made and discover the heritage and the story behind the creation of the factory and Bournville Village by the Cadbury brothers. Groups can enjoy a discounted admission rate (15 or more people), plus there is free admission for the coach driver.

5. Take a marmalade leisure break

Group travel organisers planning a break at the Runnymede-on-Thames Hotel might like to enquire about a marmalade-themed afternoon tea. Taste your way through afternoon tea with ginger and marmalade cake, washed down with a Classic English Marmalade Cocktail. There’s also a spa on site, and plenty to enjoy in the surrounding countryside of Surrey.

More Paddington…
