Mixology

Sociable, educational and fun, these group-friendly masterclasses and workshops range from floristry lessons to willow weaving.

1. Mixology cocktail classes

Mixology is a cocktail-making company based in Shoreditch, and groups of varying sizes can book to take cocktail creation classes. Sessions are tailored to each group and are very hands-on. Participants will be guided through the background and concepts of mixology, learning fundamental techniques before making their own beverages. Up to 150 people can book a class.

2. Willow weaving

Discover the history and art of the traditional industry of willow growing and basket making in Somerset at the Willows & Wetlands Visitor Centre in Taunton. Fancy sculpting a goose, a chicken or a cockerel from willow? Groups can do so in a private workshop. Prices includes refreshments and all materials, and lunch is available at the adjacent Lemon Tree Coffee House at an additional cost.

3. Alfresco floristry sessions

This summer the pretty London Essence Summer Terrace at St Ermin's Hotel (close to ST James’s Park) will play host to a collection of floral masterclasses, run by London florists TBR Floral Design. The newly opened terrace is an alfresco bar, and your class, starting with a hand-crafted G&T, will see participants watch some professional demonstrations. Then it's your turn to create your own floral masterpiece. The day ends with a garden-themed afternoon tea, also served on the terrace. Private group bookings are available.

4. Sewing school

Fabric emporium and sewing school Guthrie & Ghani in Birmingham offers private workshops in various fabric-based skills. GTOs can choose from workshops that create items like cushion covers, party bunting, shopping bags and make-up bags. Workshops are suitable for all abilities and materials are included, as is the use of equipment such as sewing machines. Tea and biscuits can also be arranged. Group numbers depend on the workshop you want to do.

The Cookery School runs a programme of two day, one day and half-day hands-on cookery classes throughout the year.
