West End transfer for Clybourne Park

Date Posted: 14/01/2011

Bruce Norris’s satirical comedy Clybourne Park is to transfer to London’s West End following its critically acclaimed run at the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs at the Royal Court.

Previewing from the 28th January at Wyndham’s Theatre, Lorna Brown, Sarah Goldberg, Michael Goldsmith, Lucian Msamati, Sam Spruell and Sophie Thompson will reprise their roles in what has been promoted as “the funniest play of the year”.

Exploring the fault line between race and property, Clybourne Park is written in two parts, over two generations. In 1959 Russ and Bev sell their desirable two-bed at a knock-down price, enabling the first black family to move into the neighbourhood, and creating ripples of discontent amongst the cosy white urbanites of Clybourne Park. In 2009, the same property is being bought by Lindsey and Steve, whose plans to raze the house and start again is met with a similar response. Are the issues festering beneath the floorboards actually the same fifty years on?

Running for a limited 14-week season, group rates are available for parties of eight or more for performances from Monday to Thursday.
