West End transfer for Chariots of Fire

Date Posted: 23/04/2012

Chariots of Fire, a Hampstead Theatre Production, will transfer to the West End’s Gielgud Theatre from the 22nd June.

The new adaptation is inspired by the original screenplay of the 1981 Academy Award-winning film, and is now booking in the West End until the 10th November.

Based on the extraordinary true story of Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, Chariots of Fire is billed as an inspirational tale of hope, honour and belief, and promises to transform the Gielgud Theatre into an immersive stadia experience for group theatre-goers.

Set at the Paris Olympic Games in 1924, a devout Scottish Christian runs for the glory of God; the son of an immigrant Lithuanian Jew runs to overcome predjudice. Two young track athletes who live for the beautiful purity of running and who prevail in the face of overwhelming odds.

The cast will be led by Jack Lowden as Eric Liddell and James McArdle (pictured) as Harold Abrahams.
