The National Theatre’s production of War Horse will embark on a major UK tour in 2017, opening at the Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury on 15th September.

War Horse will then return to The Bristol Hippodrome (where it played a sell-out run last year) from 18th October to 11th November.

Synopsis

War Horse follows the story of a young boy called Albert and his beloved horse, Joey, who has been requisitioned to fight for the English in World War One.

Caught in enemy crossfire, Joey ends up serving on both sides during the war before landing in no man’s land, while Albert, not old enough to enlist, embarks on a treacherous mission to find his horse and bring him home.

War Horse, which has been seen by over seven million people worldwide, will complete its record-breaking eight year London run at the New London Theatre on 12th March this year.

The 2017 UK tour will coincide with the centenary commemorations of the end of World War One and follows the production’s successful tour of the UK and Ireland between 2013 and2015.

The show has won 25 awards including the Tony Award for Best Play on Broadway. It is directed by Bristol Old Vic’s artistic director Tom Morris and Marianne Elliott, and adapted by Nick Stafford from Michael Morpurgo’s novel of the same name.
