In 2017, groups will be able to sail on 11 new river cruise itineraries with Vantage Travel.

The travel company, which operates five river cruise ships in Europe, has created new sailings through Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia.

Examples include the nine-night Tulips and Windmills itinerary, which stops in places like Enkhuizen where travellers can visit a bulb grower, and Rotterdam, where they can visit the Kinderdijk windmills.

And the eight-night Passage to Eastern Europe tour, which calls in at Budapest, Vukovar in Croatia, Belgrade in Serbia, and Ruse in Bulgaria, among others.

The 14-night Rhine and Moselle cruise, meanwhile, takes passengers all the way to Switzerland, where excursions can include a city tour in Basel.

Also new for 2017 will be a series of Grand Journeys, which allow groups to combine two itineraries and only unpack once.

For example, an Essentials of Holland & Belgium cruise can be combined with the Grand European Tour itinerary to create a journey that takes travellers from Holland to Hungary.

Vantage Travel’s Derek Lloyd, vice president of global sales said, “We looked at the season as a whole, rather than plan a series of individual return journeys up and down rivers, and we scheduled our 2017 sailings to give guests the option to combine two trips back-to-back as often as possible.

“This makes the most of the huge number of destinations en-route throughout Europe, and allows our guests to extend or condense their holiday time according to their requirements.”
