VE Day celebrations at the Royal Gunpowder Mills

Date Posted: 29/02/2012

Groups and coach parties are invited to join in the VE Day celebrations at the Royal Gunpowder Mills in Waltham Abbey, Essex over the May Bank Holiday weekend, in a special event which will transport visitors back to the 1940s.

The historic site, which played a key role in World War Two, will be transformed with a series of military and civilian re-enactments from the 5th to 7th May, including a street party, jive dancing, and battle demonstrations.

Visiting groups can explore the many living history camps, and talk to re-enactment soldiers to discover what life was like during wartime. There will also be the chance to visit a 1940s general store, toy shop and kitchen, as well as experiencing an air-raid warning.

Special-interest groups may also be interested to know that among the highlights of this special event will be the presence of the world’s only MKII B Hawker Hurricane Hurribomber and Spitfire, which will be carrying out aerobatic displays on the 6th and 7th May.

Group travel organisers are advised to pre-book.
