Travel back in time at Historic Duxford

Date Posted: 06/05/2012

Historic Duxford is a new permanent exhibition opening at IWM Duxford in Cambridgeshire next spring.

Located in the old Watch Office, opposite the Control Tower, Historic Duxford will bring to life the history of Duxford during its time as an operational airfield, from 1918 to 1961.

Recreating the original 1930s Watch Office, from which the duty pilot would record the activities of landing and departing aircraft, recordings and visual period details will engage visiting groups, taking them back in time.

You can learn of the fascinating stories of the individual men and women who worked and lived in this RAF base, with personal testimony answering questions such as, what was it like to fly from RAF Duxford? How did people cope with the strains of an often dangerous job, particularly in wartime?

Those arranging a group trip to the Historic Duxford exhibition can also embark on a new heritage trail which will reveal key moments in history at the former RAF base through audio and photographs.

IWM Duxford offers group benefits for parties of ten plus, including discounted admission prices and guided tours.
