Former Inspiral Carpets drummer Craig Gill

Manchester Music Tours, run by former Inspiral Carpets drummer Craig Gill, has introduced three new tours for groups this year.

The Beatles in Manchester, the James Walking Tour and The Hollies Bus Tour are new additions to a collection of tours spanning musical interests from Oasis and the Jam to Joy Division and The Smiths.

The Beatles in Manchester

This is a three hour bus tour tracing the footsteps of The Beatles.

Landmarks and places visited will include the Piccadilly BBC building; The Oasis Club; The Three Coins where The Beatles held their first performance in 1961; Granada TV; and Odeon Cinema.

The tour also includes details of some of their auditions and talent contests plus their historic radio and television debuts.

James Walking Tour

This walking tour is dedicated to the band James, and will visit locations such as the Free Trade Hall, where the band played two gigs, and The Boardwalk, where James used to rehearse.

Groups taking this tour will also visit the Palace Theatre; the Hacienda; the Ritz; and the Hard Rock Café.

The Hollies Bus Tour

From a bus, with plenty of opportunity to stop and take pictures, groups will visit The Twisted Wheel; the Free Trade Hall and Midland Hotel; the Hippodrome Theatre; and The Playhouse Theatre in Hulme.

In addition, the tour will stop at Ordsall Primary School – where Graham Nash and Allan Clarke first met at school – and Salford Lads Club, where a full guided tour of the building will be given.

More about Manchester Music Tours

Manchester Music Tours was established in 2005 by Inspiral Carpets drummer Craig Gill. Drawing on first hand experiences he has pieced together guided tours of all the landmarks synonymous with the Manchester music scene.

Scheduled tours and private tours, bus tours and driving tours are all available. The bus tours can be hop-on hop-off so groups can visit some of the sights listed on the tour itineraries.

GTOs can book up to 15 people on bus tours and 30 people on walking tours; pre-booking is essential.
