The Good Life Experience: not your ‘average’ festival

Date Posted: 09/03/2015

The Good Life Experience festival, to be held from 18th to 20th September on the Hawarden Estate in Flintshire, is the opportunity to get close to the campfire, hear music you’ve never heard before and learn skills to take away with you for life.

The festival, founded by singer, songwriter and author Cerys Matthews, Steve Abbott, and Charlie and Caroline Gladstone, is set out to be a festival with a difference.

A programme of performances, demonstrations, workshops, talks and activities will include the opportunity to experience axe-throwing, campfires cooking the rabbit you’ve just learnt to skin, spoon carving and more.

Music and adventure

Matthews will lead a campfire sing-a-long, whilst broadcaster, writer and traveller Ben Fogle will create a Great British Skills Tent sharing the knowledge he has gained through his adventures.
There will be also be an opportunity to learn from experts in archery and abseiling and enjoy the rides at the Vintage Fairground.

Food and drink

As well as demonstrations on butchery, rabbit skinning and sausage making by Hawarden Estate Farm Shop’s multi award-winning butchery team, Masterchef winner and founder of Wahaca Restaurants Thomasina Miers will head an impressive line-up of chefs.

Tom Herbert of The Fabulous Baker Brothers will be back for his second year to demonstrate campfire baking. Ella Woodward, author of Deliciously Ella, will also provide vegan and vegetarian cuisine with her whole foods and plant-based recipes.

The literature tent will play host to the nation’s favourite authors, journalists and adventurers, including traveller James Greenwood.

“The Good Life festival is not your average festival,” Cerys Matthews said. “It was designed to offer people the chance to learn and experience new things they’d never tried before, from throwing axes to seeing a gypsy band play live and learning how to dance, do yoga, abseil and cook on a campfire, all on the same day. The festival will offer the best of the great outdoors, music, culture and food in a magical setting surrounded by woodland against the backdrop of a stunning historic castle.”
