This summer, theatre company Antic Disposition will present a new production of Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors in Gray’s Inn Hall in London.
Presented in association with Shakespeare400, The Comedy of Errors is one of a number of nationwide events that will mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.
Gray’s Inn Hall is the very space where the play was first performed in 1594. The production will run there from 20th August until 1st September, and group travel organisers can book tickets now.
The Comedy of Errors is directed by Ben Horslen and John Risebero, who also designs, with musical direction by Nick Barstow and lighting design by Elizabeth Gunby.
Casting is to be announced later on during the year.
Synopsis
One of Shakespeare’s earliest plays, as well as his shortest, The Comedy of Errors has been described as a riot of slapstick humour and comic mayhem.
Antipholus of Syracuse and his longsuffering servant Dromio arrive in the glamorous resort town of Ephesus in search of the twin brothers they both lost as babies.
The pair are swept into a bewildering society of mobsters and misfits and find themselves at the centre of a chaotic double case of mistaken identity.
Groups going to see The Comedy of Errors can expect live music and songs performed by a cast of actor musicians.
Gray’s Inn Hall
The historic Gray’s Inn Hall is one of the few remaining original Shakespearean venues and has changed little since Elizabethan times.
In its past, the hall frequently hosted lavish revels and entertainments, including, on the night of 28th December 1594, the first recorded performance of The Comedy of Errors.
