The Borders Railway opens in Scotland

Date Posted: 07/09/2015

Scotland’s newest scenic railway, the Borders Railway, has opened to the public and will offer groups the chance to journey from Edinburgh, through Midlothian, to Tweedbank in the Scottish Borders.

The route will pass attractions including Abbotsford House, the home of Sir Walter Scott, Melrose Abbey and Rosslyn Chapel.

The Railway will also open up opportunities for groups to explore Midlothian’s mining past at the National Mining Museum Scotland and the Scottish Borders, globally renowned for its wool and textile manufacture and the landscapes which inspired Sir Walter Scott’s writing.

HM The Queen will officially open the railway with a steam train trip on 9th September as she celebrates becoming the longest serving monarch.
