A brand new tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Sunset Boulevard will open in Leicester on 16th September.

The production will begin its run at the Curve theatre in Leicester this September before touring various locations throughout the UK and Ireland.

This year, the tour will visit theatres including Edinburgh Playhouse, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Manchester Palace, His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen, Birmingham Hippodrome, Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin and Milton Keynes Theatre.

In early 2018 the tour will continue at venues including Bristol Hippodrome, Southampton Mayflower Theatre, New Victoria Theatre, Cliffs Pavilion, and The Alhambra Theatre.

It’s been confirmed that Sunset Boulevard will star Ria Jones as Norma Desmond after her performance as understudy for Glenn Close in the London run last year. More details regarding casting will be revealed later in the year.

The new tour will be directed by Nikolai Foster, who is the artistic director at the Curve.

Summary

Sunset Boulevard follows silent film actress Norma Desmond in her mansion on Sunset Boulevard, as she lives in a fantasy world.

Joe Gills, a screen writer on the run from debt collectors, stumbles into her life, and is persuaded to work on a film script that Norma believes will put her back in front of the cameras.

Joe is seduced by Norma and her lifestyle but later becomes claustrophobic and trapped and falls for another woman. He tries to break free from his new lifestyle but with dramatic consequences.

The score includes songs such as Sunset Boulevard, With One Look, As If We Never Said Goodbye, The Greatest Star Of All and The Perfect Year.
