Bishop's Palace and Gardens.

From 10th to 12th June, the Bishop’s Palace and Gardens in Wells, Somerset will mark the Queen’s 90th birthday with an English Country Garden themed celebration.

There will be the chance to take part in workshops and demonstrations on a variety of themes throughout each day and the opportunity to listen to talks from famous names in the gardening world.

Designated zones, such as ‘How does my garden grow?’, ‘Birds, Bugs and Bees’, ‘Taking Care of my Garden’ and ‘Being in my Garden’ will mean your group can either split up or stick together to discover more about particular interests.

Plant stalls, specialist garden retailers, music and food will also be on offer over the summer weekend.

A pre-booked group rate is available at £5.95 per person for the festival. It will be open between 10am and 6pm on each of the three days.

Amongst all the festival extras the 14 acres of gardens at Bishop’s Palace show off formal planting, a wild arboretum, garden views across to Glastonbury Tor and Wells Cathedral, as well as the ancient wells that give the city of Wells its name.

And, if you can’t make the June weekend, or you want to extend your stay in England’s smallest city, Wells, there is the palace itself to explore, Wells Cathedral, or the Wells and Mendip Museum.

Highlights to spot at Wells Cathedral include the Wells Clock – considered to be the second oldest clock mechanism in Great Britain – the West Front, and the stained glass Jesse (East) Window.

Archaeological and social history artefacts are on display at the Wells and Mendip Museum, which is home to the Wells City archives that date back nearly 900 years.
