Stratford to host first Festival of Motoring

Date Posted: 18/12/2012

Motor enthusiasts can enjoy the launch of the first Stratford Festival of Motoring, which will take place on 5th and 6th May.

The event will showcase over 200 classic and special interest vehicles, as well as featuring two runs through Warwickshire and Gloucestershire, where entrants can test-drive some of the cars on display.

Highlights of the festival include vehicles from the veteran, Edwardian, vintage, PVT and classic eras, which will contrast with some of the world’s most famous modern supercars such as models from Ferrari, Lamborghini and Maserati.

Group visitors will be able to see the Bubble Car, Bond Minicar, Goggomobil, Heinkel and Messerschmitt, as well as a variety of two-wheeled vehicles including a host of vintage and classic motor-cycles.

A drive through the country

Those visiting the festival can enjoy a driving experience in a choice of vehicles on one of the countryside runs.

The first is the Test Hills run, which will challenge your driving skills as 60 miles of road direct you through some of the steepest Cotswold inclines. The run was previously used by Midlands’ motor manufacturers to test vehicle pulling power and braking ability.

The second run will see participants motoring through towns and villages to the north of the town, searching for clues to complete a light-hearted treasure trail.

Event organiser, Adrian Grubb, said: “The Stratford Festival of Motoring promises something for everyone…and what better way to spend the May Day bank holiday than in the picture-perfect location that is Stratford-upon Avon?”
