Spring tour for Alan Plater’s musical play

Date Posted: 17/01/2012

A memorial production of Alan Plater’s Close the Coalhouse Door will open at Northern Stage on the 18th April, before touring the UK until June.

Based on the stories of Sid Chaplin, Close the Coalhouse Door is a musical play, first written and performed in Newcastle in 1968. Charting all the major strikes, victories and disappointments in British mining history, the story is structured around music by Alex Glasgow, inspired by north-eastern folk songs of each period.

Tour dates include Richmond Theatre (9th to 12th May); The Lowry Salford (15th to 19th May); Lawrence Bately Theatre, Huddersfield (23rd to 26th May); Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford (29th May to 2nd June); Gala, Durham (12th to 16th June); Oxford Playhouse (19th to 23rd June); and Theatre Royal, York (26th to 30th June).

Group travel organisers should contact their preferred venue for further details on group bookings.
