Shakespeare goes global

Date Posted: 14/09/2011

It has recently been announced that the World Shakespeare Festival will run from the 23rd April until November 2012, and is set to be a celebration of William Shakespeare as the world's playwright.

Produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in partnership with leading arts organisations and with Globe to Globe, the festival will feature major new productions, ground-breaking international collaborations, and radical interpretations of Shakespeare's work by some of the world's leading theatre companies. All this will take place alongside a range of exhibitions, events and interactive online projects.

Productions and events are scheduled to take place across the UK, in locations including Stratford-upon-Avon, London, NewcastleGateshead, Wales and Scotland. Highlights confirmed so far include Shakespeare: staging the world, a major exhibition at the British Museum; The Stories of Shakespeare, a fresh look at Shakespeare through the collections of the RSC and Shakespeare Birthplace Trust; and Open Stages, which sees the best of the RSC’s amateur collaborators performing Shakespeare-inspired productions next summer.
