Blender's sample room

The Scotch Whisky Experience in Edinburgh is offering groups a ‘new sense of Scotland’ with a revamped tour for the 2017 season.

Utilising audio and visual technology, the new aspects of the tour will reportedly help to fully immerse visitors in Scotland’s national drink.

The new experience gives visitors a recreated 180° panoramic bird’s eye tour of Scotland’s five whisky-making regions via film.

Specially commissioned footage, which has been captured throughout 2017, brings Scotland to life, from the rolling Lowlands to the rugged Highlands. Groups watching the film will discover how each region imbues the character of its single malts.

Following the film, groups will be introduced to the art of blending in a recreated 19th century blender’s sample room.

Guests will experience surroundings themed on the 1870s while delving into both the history and alchemy of creating whisky. The new room uses audio visual effects to enhance the historic theme.

Other elements of the whisky tour remain the same, including a barrel ride through the whisky distilling process, and what’s said to be the world’s largest collection of Scotch whisky.

Alongside these changes, the attraction has also increased the accessibility of the tour, with the addition of five new languages to its audio guides, and British Sign Language and American Sign Language due to become available from the summer.

Private distillery tours are available for groups.

Susan Morrison, director and general manager at The Scotch Whisky Experience, said: “Our latest changes to the tour use different sights and sounds to bring Scotch whisky to life, whilst also giving our visitors a sense of Scotland, the stunning locations in which different whiskies are made, and how this helps to make the drink so special.”
