The Museum of Science and Industry will exhibit the winning entries of the prestigious Wellcome Image Awards, which showcase science through art.

The awards, set up to raise the profile of contemporary biomedical image collections, celebrate the work of research scientists, photographers and illustrators in the field. The 20 award-winning images will go on display from 19th March.

The exhibition will include images of a scanning electron micrograph of a greenfly’s eye; a clinical photograph of an elderly lady’s curved spine; an illustration of pollen grains and a micrograph showing drug-carrying particles in the lungs of a mouse.

An image of an interactive multi-sensory unit, designed to provide a distraction for anxious children undergoing serious hospital procedures by using a bubble tube, fibre optic lights, mirrors and a solar projector, will also be on display.

The exhibition opens on 19th March following the announcement of an overall winner on 18th March.
