Autumn in Canada

In September 2017 groups will be able to take a new cruise to Canada with Saga, which will visit Quebec, Montreal and Halifax.

The cruise will include a new port of call to St Pierre et Miquelon, a set of islands that were one of North America’s first European settlements.

The 31-night trip on board Saga Sapphire had been designed to showcase the east coast’s autumn colours and the history of its founding fathers.

The cruise will sail from Southampton on 15th September 2017 to Ponta Delgada, on Sâo Miguel Island, in the Azores. Here guests can hike to Fire Lake or travel to the extinct volcano of Sete Cidades.

The 720-passenger ship will then sail on to her first port of call in Canada, which will be St John's, one of the oldest cities in North America.

Groups can enjoy the seafront, walk through the streets of colourful wooden houses or take a tour to Signal Hill, where Italian engineer Guglielmo Marconi received the first Transatlantic wireless signal.

The voyage will then head to Corner Brook at the mouth of the Humber River; and visit the Mingan Archipelago National Park.

This park is a popular destination and groups can take a smaller boat to one of the many islands making up the archipelago. From natural botanical gardens to monoliths, there’s plenty to inspire on this leg of the cruise.

Further holiday highlights include visits to a fishing, hunting and forestry community called Sept-Îles; Saguenay, which is a centre for gastronomy; Quebec City, full of historic architecture, museums and churches; and Trois-Rivières, a city with a historic quarter featuring writers' bars and artists' workshops.

The Saga cruise holiday will conclude with stops in cosmopolitan Montreal, the paper mill town of Baie-Commeau, and  Halifax – the capital of Nova Scotia and the world’s second largest natural harbour.
