Royal Crown Derby hosts Titanic exhibition

Date Posted: 01/12/2010

Royal Crown Derby will present a special exhibition next spring, commemorating the company’s historic association with the ill-fated ocean liner, Titanic.

Tying in with the centenary year of the fitting and launch of the Titanic, the exhibition will be hosted at Royal Crown Derby’s Osmaston Road headquarters and Visitor Centre in Derby, running from the 26th February to the 2nd July.

Sparing no expense for the first class á la carte restaurant, The White Star line placed an exclusive order with Royal Crown Derby, which included 600 dinner plates, 150 soup bowls, 150 breakfast plates, 100 salad plates, 150 breakfast cups and saucers, and 100 teacups and saucers. Following the order, the pattern design ceased to be manufactured for general sale.

The centre-piece of the exhibition will be a recreation of the Titanic’s first class á la carte restaurant , with a table ‘dressed’ as it would have been on its 1912 voyage. Additional highlights include a collection of memorabilia from the doomed vessel, as well as from its sister ship, The Olympic, and costumes worn by Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in the 1997 movie.

Royal Crown Derby welcomes groups and coach parties. The Visitor Centre is comprised of a factory shop, a coffee shop and museum, with factory tours also available. An information pack is available for GTOs.
