Group Leisure Anniversary Teddy

Group Leisure is giving away mini Group Leisure bears to readers, in celebration of it 20th year as the market leader.

To receive one, all Group Leisure readers have to do is e-mail magazine editor Sarah Holt telling her in 20 words why they love reading Group Leisure every month.

The writers of the best entries, as judged by the Group Leisure editorial team, will receive a bear in the post.

20 years of Group Leisure

The first Group Leisure was published in March 1995 and featured an advert for Thorpe Park on the cover. Half the content, meanwhile, was printed in black and white ink.

Just like the magazine that’s published today, the inaugural Group Leisure had a Bulletin Board section, which contained news about Mr Blobby starring in a new show at Pleasurewood Hills theme park in Suffolk.

The first feature in the magazine was an interview with GTO Peter Stonebridge from Eastern Electricity’s head office sports and social organisation.

Milestones in Group Leisure history

In 1996 the first Reader Club trip took readers to the Royal Armouries Museum in York.

In 1997 the inaugural Group Leisure Travel Show was staged at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

In 1997 the Group Leisure Awards were held for the first time at Manor Hotel, Meriden.

In 1998 the Group Leisure & Travel Show moved to Wembley in London.
