Royal Navy helicopters in an aerial display

The annual Royal Naval Air Station Yeovilton International Air Day in Somerset will take place on 2nd July 2016.

The summer air show’s overarching theme will be Naval Aviation - Past, Present & Future, and is due to provide an insight into what the future holds for the Fleet Air Arm (the branch of the British Royal Navy responsible for the operation of naval aircraft). 

Air show highlights

Groups visiting the show will be able to see a number of highlights. One in particular will be The Swordfish, a World War Two aircraft which participated in the pursuit and sinking of the German battleship Bismarck 75 years ago. 

Additionally, the final appearance of the Lynx maritime helicopters will take place during the event before they are put out of service in March 2017.

These helicopters were originally intended for civil and naval usage, but military interest led to their development for the armed forces.

What else can you see?

Audiences at the air show will be able to watch over five hours of flying displays. A static show will feature historic naval aircraft and their modern day counterparts in several demonstrations.

Besides the air displays there will be an array of ground attractions including an engineering fair, the latest defence technology displayed in exhibitions, trade stalls and arena displays.

Simulators, fairground rides and helicopter flights will also be available for visitors to enjoy.
