A show featuring aerial performers seemingly flying across the night sky will serve as the finale for Yorkshire Festival next year.

The show, Place des Anges, will feature ‘angels flying’ across the sky on invisible zip lines and appear like they are emerging from the sky above Hull College in Queen’s Gardens.

The performance will culminate in a display of fireworks with designed not only to light up the sky, but to transform the ground below.

Place des Anges will also serve as a transition from the end of Welcome to Yorkshire’s Yorkshire Festival and the opening of the Amy Johnson Festival, which will celebrate the life, achievements and legacy of the English aviatrix who was born in Hull.

Martin Green, CEO and director of Hull 2017, commented, “I am so excited to be presenting the extraordinary Place des Anges as the finale of the Yorkshire Festival and to open the Amy Johnson Festival.

Places des Anges is a breath-taking piece of aerial spectacle that creates a real sense of magic and wonder. It will appeal to people of all ages, and has to be seen to be believed.

“The event is just one of many in an incredible line-up of cultural events this summer. I’m expecting demand for the free tickets to be extremely high as we prepare to stage the nations’ cultural festival in 2017.”

The show has previously been performed in Australia, South Africa and London.

Matt Burman, Yorkshire Festival’s artistic director, added, “We are thrilled to be presenting Place des Anges as part of the epic, bold and game-changing Yorkshire Festival 2016.

“Expect the unexpected with world-class performances, UK and world premieres and exclusives, and even an attempt to break a world record.“

Places des Anges will take place on Saturday 2nd July and free tickets will be released for the show in June. Yorkshire Festival 2016 will run between 16th June and 3rd July 2017.
