Outdoor theatre with a Twist

Date Posted: 28/01/2015

Charles Dickens’ popular rags to riches story Oliver Twist will be brought to life amongst the trees of Williamson Park in Lancaster this summer.

From 3rd July to 15th August, Dickens’ characters Fagin, the Artful Dodger, Nancy, Bill Sykes and the hideous Mr Bumble will lead the audience on a journey through the magical open-air setting.

Since 1987, The Dukes Theatre company’s walkabout shows have transformed Williamson Park into Neverland, Middle Earth and Ancient Greece and now Dickensian England – with a northern twist in this new adaptation by Coronation Street scriptwriter, Debbie Oates.

Central to the drama is the Ashton Memorial, once described as the grandest monument in England, from which groups can enjoy views across Morecambe Bay during the show and take in a picnic too.
