Norwich has its art in the right place

Date Posted: 20/12/2014

Norfolk’s county town is bursting at the seams with art exhibitions during the next couple of years and will be the host town for the prestigious British Art Show in 2016.

Over the next two years a series of major art exhibitions will capitalise on the city’s rich artistic heritage which includes two major art galleries; Norwich Castle Museum & Art Gallery and the Art Fund Prize-shortlisted Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts.

Organised every five years by the Hayward Gallery as part of the Hayward Touring programme, the British Art Show showcases the very best work of both emerging and established artists.

It is the biggest touring exhibition of contemporary art in the UK calendar, attracting over 420,000 visitors in its tour to four cities in 2010 and 2011.

Norwich is one of only four cities chosen to host the show, which also include Leeds (where the show opens in 2015), Edinburgh and Southampton.

Norwich museums and venues across the county will be involved in hosting the British Art Show 8 which is a great opportunity to showcase the city as an art destination.
