Night-time Cathedral tours launched in St Albans

St Albans Cathedral has unveiled its autumn programme of Abbey by Night tours for groups.

Monks and historical characters will bring to life the history of the St Alban’s Cathedral this autumn on a new series of Abbey by Night tours.

The abbey was once a centre for worship as well as art and literature and during the tours, groups will learn about Walter of Colchester who painted the Medieval wall paintings, pilgrims who travelled miles to worship at the abbey, the abbot and the monk who guarded the shrine of Alban, Britain’s first saint.

On the 7th and 21st October and 18th November visitors will also be able to discover more about the small town that was within the abbey’s boundary walls, which had senior monks running various ‘department’s including the guest house, refectory and infirmary.

The hour-long tours cost £12 per person and includes a drinks reception. The tours can accommodate up to 35 people.
