New virtual reality experience to open at Wimbledon museum

Groups experiencing the new virtual reality feature will don HTC Vive VE headsets and be able to immerse themselves in the action of legendary Wimbledon tennis matches.

The experience will allow participants to become a virtual part of matches that made history – like those of John McEnroe, Pete Sampras, and Martina and Serena Williams.

Focusing on the history of Wimbledon – the best shots, players and matches – this experience is said to be one of the first of its kind in England.

The headset will allow the wearer to feel as though they are right there in the heat of the action at the Wimbledon Championships.

There’s plenty more to explore at the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum, including the latest exhibition, Reinventing the Racket. It highlights the museum’s most iconic and unusual rackets, featuring the old, the new and the entirely unique.

Groups can also take a tour of the Wimbledon grounds themselves; this is a behind-the-scenes look at the famous tennis grounds, lasting one hour and revealing areas normally unseen by the public.

The tour also takes in No. 1 Court as well as the members’ enclosure, for a great view of No.2 and No.3 Courts.

New highlights will be added to the tour this year also, including never before seen locations such as the Broadcast Centre and the Press Writers’ Room.
