New rugby-inspired theatre show touches down in 2015

Date Posted: 16/12/2014

Crouch, Touch, Pause, Engage tells the story of rugby legend Gareth Thomas.

The new play is the result of a collaboration between the National Theatre of Wales and Out of Joint theatre company.

The plotline looks at the life of Gareth, his connections with his home town Bridgend, his sporting achievements and the politics that surrounded his career.

Gareth himself had an input into the creation of the production, and so did a group of local young people from Bridgend.

The show also focuses on the moment that Gareth found out the Sun newspaper was going to ‘out’ him as gay, on the eve of one of the most important games in his career.

The play opens at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff in February. Then it goes on a tour of the UK until June, stopping at 15 venues including the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds and the Arcola Theatre in London.
