New-look National Museum of Scotland unveiled

Date Posted: 03/08/2011

The National Museum of Scotland has recently reopened to the public following a £47 million redevelopment, which features over 8,000 objects across 16 galleries. Visiting groups can now explore the diversity of the natural world, cultures, art and design, science, technology and Scottish history under one roof.

A key element of the project is a purpose-built 650-square-metre exhibition space, and the first major international exhibit will be Fascinating Mummies, displaying from the 11th February to the 27th May. It will explore the complex rituals surrounding death and afterlife in Ancient Egypt, and include treasures from the National Museum of Antiquities in Leiden, world famous for its Egyptology collections.

GTOs planning a visit to the National Museum of Scotland can take advantage of guided tours which can be tailored to cater for the group’s interests.
