Windermere Lake Cruises, Lakeland Arts and the Lakeland Motor Museum have collaborated to showcase the Lake District’s blend of culture, heritage and nostalgia.

Lakeland Heritage: what’s on the itinerary?

The Lakeland Heritage package will include a cruise on one of Windermere’s three historic steamers, which are all part of the National Historic Fleet.

These comprise MV Tern, Windermere’s oldest boat at 125 years old; MV Teal, the largest vessel ever built for the lake – with a capacity of 530 passengers – and MV Swan, the youngest steamer at 79 years old.

The second attraction featuring in the Lakeland Heritage package is Blackwell, The Arts & Crafts House, which is described as an outstanding example of British architecture and dates back to the crossroads of the Victorian age and the 20th century.

Designed by M H Baillie Scott, most of the building’s original decorative interiors are still intact and this historic house doubles up as a gallery and museum, giving visitors plenty to learn about.

Groups enjoying the new package will also get to visit the Lakeland Motor Museum, which provides an insight into the local area’s role in the Industrial Revolution.

Visitors will learn about the Leven Valley, just beyond the southern tip of Windermere, and how it played a major role in everything from gunpowder manufacture to woodland industries.

The Lakeland Heritage package includes entry to both Blackwell and the Lakeland Motor Museum and a 40 minute one-way trip on Windermere Lake Cruises (which can be upgraded to a two-way cruise if desired).

Anyone wanting to book the package should contact Windermere Lake Cruises on 01539-443360 or info@windermere-lakecruises.co.uk.
