Groups will ride on a vintage bus during a Dark London Bus Tour

Groups travel organisers looking for a bus ride with an edge can now experience a Dark London Bus Tour, which visits city sites with a particularly dark past.

The tours, which run on Saturdays and Sundays, have been created by Russell Edwards, author of the bestselling book Naming Jack the Ripper.

Edwards’ tour explores the real history behind some of the world’s most notorious villains, including Jack the Ripper and fictional Victorian killer Sweeney Todd.

The tour also looks at the problems faced by ordinary Londoners, including crime, plague and fire.

What will you do on a Dark London Bus Tour?

The three-hour experience visits the sites of London's scariest historic events, from Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot and The Great Fire of London, to witch trials, public executions and the dramas inside the infamous Newgate Prison.

Groups who are taking the spooky bus ride will travel from Westminster to Whitechapel on a vintage Routemaster Bus, and pass by historic landmarks including the Houses of Parliament, St Paul's Cathedral and The Tower of London.

Visitors will learn about the hidden secrets of the city's modern streets, before finishing with a true crime walk through historic Whitechapel, on the paths where the killer known as Jack the Ripper murdered his unfortunate victims.

Here you will discover how the world's biggest murder mystery went unsolved for so long, and the real truth about the man, and the women, behind the myth.

Russell Edwards

Edwards is an amateur researcher who has long been fascinated by the East End of London and by the crimes of Jack the Ripper. He first got to know the Whitechapel area as a student and about the Ripper story in the early 1990s.

What started as an interest became a mission to prove the identity of the world’s most famous murderer. Naming Jack the Ripper is his first book and since publication Russell has been running ‘The Jack the Ripper Experience’ true crime tours of Whitechapel.
