Menopause The Musical To Embark On New Nationwide Tour %7C Group Theatre News

This spring, Menopause The Musical will embark on a nationwide tour, following its previous sell out UK and Irish tours in 2008 and 2010.

The show opens at The Theatre Royal Brighton and features an all-female cast.

Menopause The Musical stars Cheryl Fergison (Eastenders), Linda Nolan (The Nolans), Casualty’s Rebecca Wheatley and The Al Murray Show’s Ruth Berkeley.

Synopsis

The musical tells the story of four women who meet at a department store sale and have nothing in common on first appearance. But with the sale of a black lace bra, the four end up having a heart-to-heart about ‘The Change’ and what it entails – hot flushes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, not enough sex, too much sex and plastic surgery.

The lyrics parody popular music from the baby boom era, such as Stayin’ Awake (The Bee Gee’s Staying Alive), and Puff, My God I’m Draggin’ (Puff The Magic Dragon).

UK Tour Dates

Menopause the Musical will tour UK venues until 1st June. It will visit reviews including Regent Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent, New Alexandra Theatre Birmingham, Edinburgh Playhouse and Sunderland Empire.

The musical's official website claims that eleven million people have seen the show and that a significant percentage of these are members of the Red Hat Society – an organisation founded in the US in 1998 for women aged 50 and beyond.

The show originally debuted in Orlando, Florida, in 2001 and is written by Jeanie Linders.

Before writing musicals, Jeanie Linders owned art businesses throughout Orlando such as Jazzfest, artsLInk and the Rotary Orlando Street Painting Festival. She has since gone on to produce The D* Word – A Musical (*Ditched, Dumped, Divorced and Dating) which ran for six weeks in Orlando in 2013.
