Claire van Kampen’s new play Farinelli and the King transfers to the West End for a limited run this September and will star Mark Rylance as King Philippe of Spain.

The Duke of York’s theatre in London will be home to Farinelli and the King, starring Mark Rylance, from 14th September to 5th December.

The play tells the intriguing true story of Farinelli, and his decision to trade fame and fortune in the opera-houses of Europe for a life of servitude at the court of King Philippe V.

The theatre will be transformed with onstage seating, candles and live Baroque music played by six onstage musicians.

Although well-known in the theatrical world, veteran Shakespearean actor Mark Rylance recently shot to fame after he starred as Thomas Cromwell in the BBC’s version of Wolf Hall.

Group bookings are available for Farinelli and the King, for more information click here.
