Beanfield by Banksy

The new MOCO Modern Contemporary Museum will open in Amsterdam in April, and its first exhibitions will showcase work from street artist Banksy and Pop Art creator Andy Warhol.

The Andy Warhol exhibition, titled Warhol: Royal, will run until 3rd July, while Banksy: Laugh Now will be open until 4th September.

There will be more than 80 works combined from both art titans.

One of the highlights of the entire offering will be Beanfield by Banksy, which measures three metres by four metres and has not been seen by the public since 2009.

Warhol’s famous Monroe images will also feature; groups might recognise the repeated colourful prints of Marilyn Monroe’s face, all based on the same publicity photograph from the 1953 film Niagara.

More about MOCO Modern Contemporary Museum

The MOCO museum is a private initiative launched by Lionel and Kim Logchies, owners of LionelGallery on the Spiegelstraat in Amsterdam.

For more than 18 years the couple has worked with works of art by names including Picasso, Koons, Hirst and Basquiat.

Groups visiting the museum can explore the galleries, as well sit down to food in a vegetarian restaurant, and peruse the gift shop.

Make a day of it in Amsterdam

The new museum for modern and contemporary art is set between the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum in Museum Square, and GTOs who’d like to extend a cultural day out can arrange visits to both these museums as well.

The Van Gough Museum is said to house the world's largest collection of Van Gogh paintings, alongside drawings and letters. His work here is organized chronologically into five sections, each representing a different period of his life and work: The Netherlands, Paris, Arles, Saint-Remy and Auvers-sur-Oise.

Meanwhile, the Rijksmuseum is a Dutch national museum dedicated to arts and history in Amsterdam. GTOs can book a number of guided tours here, ranging in topic from the gardens of the museum to important pieces of art from the 15th and 16th centuries.
