Leamington Spa gallery explores Robert Dudley legacy

Date Posted: 12/05/2011

A new exhibition at Leamington Spa Art Gallery & Museum will explore the life and legacy of one of Warwickshire’s most controversial characters, Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester - a favourite of Queen Elizabeth I.

Lord Leicester’s Warwickshire: The Life and Legacy of Robert Dudley will open on the 25th June, running until the 18th September. The exhibition will feature major events such as the visits of Queen Elizabeth I to Warwick Castle and Kenilworth Castle, highlighting the spectacular 19-days of ‘Princelye Pleasures’ at Kenilworth, which involved water pageants, fireworks, plays, dancing and sports.

Visiting groups can explore paintings, prints, documents, and works from local collections, all of which will showcase the Dudley heritage of Warwickshire. Entry is free and a programme of special events and activities will accompany the exhibition.
